Difficult Conversations

Difficult Conversations ....

Eliminating the need for difficult conversations

As the saying goes "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure", so leaders should be trying to eliminate the need for difficult conversations rather than working out how to have them. Preventative measures include:

  • Proving your competence
  • Having a sense of humour, and not taking yourself too seriously
  • Being genuine and showing people your true self
  • Taking a genuine interest in your staff as human beings and getting to know them
  • Listen with the intention of learning
  • And to paraphrase John Maxwell (whoever he is), you should take a little more your share of the blame and a little less than your share of the credit
